You Ask, We Answer
If you have further questions, please contact us at info[at]himalia.net

. Why "himalia"?
Himalia was initially developed for a degree project in Computer Science.
It was created within the COAL group, in the Instituto de Computación of the Facultad de Ingenieria de la República Oriental del Uruguay.
This group uses to name their projects with Jupiter's moon names. You can see the full project list here.
The project was made by Gabriel Rodríguez and Leonardo Vernazza. The tutors were Daniel Perovich and Andrés Vignaga.

. Why do you say it's semantic?
The Semantic Web proposed by Tim Berner Lee is about machine understandable data.
But what data means for you in one specific context, may be very different from what it means for me (or you) in another context.
So, we believe that "semantic" comes from data itself, but mainly from users using that data.
We provide semantic user interfaces, not RDF databases, putting the semantic aspect in the user/data side, and not in the db/data side.

. Why "DragOn"?
Because DragOn, our semantic technology, enables semantic drag & drop.

. What about RDF?
RDF is a very simple and powerful standard xml specification to describe resources, and will be the industry’s focus in the near future.
The Himalia Navigation Model (the one that exposes the semantic model) is not defined using the RDF format right now, but it's in our ToDo list.

. Does it integrate third party controls?
Yes. If you are a control developer, you may want to know about our multi-platform navigation control api.
Please don't hesitate to contact us at info[at]himalia.net.

. Does it generate code?
No. Himalia user interface runs interpreted. Why? Because we want to have a live user interface definition model, to allow the user to change it at runtime.
We have no Adaptation/Adaptability Model yet, but the next version will have this feature, and will let users virtually design their own UI.

. What does "guild" mean?
Guild: To build a Graphic User Interface (GUI) using a high-level designer, like our Himalia Guilder for VS2005.
This is not a real word yet :)
